Position Description

The Pouchelon Lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is seeking highly motivated candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellow position.

Position Responsibilities

Our lab investigates the nature and nurture mechanisms involved in the development of cortical neural circuits and their alterations in neurodevelopmental disorders. More specifically, we focus on the various neuromodulator cues that neurons in early development are exposed to and their effect on the establishment of excitation/inhibition circuits. To tackle these questions, we use multidisciplinary approaches including genomics, optogenetics, viral strategies, mouse genetics, and behavior analysis.

Position Requirements

Education: Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Neuroscience, Genomics, Genetics, Bioinformatics, or a related field.

Skills/Experience: The ideal candidate would have expertise in genomics, genetics, or molecular biology, but other backgrounds will also be considered.

Environment

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a world-renowned biomedical research institution in New York. It has shaped contemporary biomedical research and is the home of eight Nobel Prize laureates. CSHL provides a highly dynamic and interactive research environment and a unique opportunity for timely exposure to advances in various biomedical research fields. Interaction with a broad range of researchers from all over the world through its renowned Meetings and Courses program is a key feature of the institution. We believe that science is for everyone. We have had researchers with a variety of backgrounds and believe in the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Compensation & Benefits

Our employees are compensated in many ways for their contributions to our mission, including competitive pay, exceptional health benefits, retirement plans, paid time off, and a range of recognition and wellness programs. Visit our CSHL Benefits, Postdoctoral Landing & Postdoctoral Fellow Stipend Schedule sites to learn more. The salary for this role is $76,440 per annum. The salary range or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity).

We strongly recommend being fully vaccinated for COVID-19; however, it is not a requirement for employment.

How to Apply

A list of available positions is posted and continually updated on our Human Resources website. Before applying to an open postdoc position, please refer to the Laboratory’s faculty list, determine whose work is most in line with your research interests, and write to that investigator directly with a letter of introduction and copy of your curriculum vitae.

Postdoctoral Programs Office

Director: Alyson Kass-Eisler, Ph.D., kasseisl@cshl.edu

CSHL’s Office of Postdoctoral Programs provides institutional support and career development assistance for current and incoming postdocs. It opened in 2003 and is overseen by Dr. Alyson Kass-Eisler, Director of Academic Programs. Dr. Kass-Eisler has been a member of the National Postdoctoral Association since its inception, and has participated in both student and postdoctoral support workshops including NIH Train the Trainers, CIMER Facilitating Entering Mentoring, Mental Health First Aid, and the Columbia suicide prevention protocol. She has a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany, a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and postdoctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor where she held a fellowship from the American Cancer Society.

As Director of the Postdoctoral Programs Office, Dr. Kass-Eisler helps orient new and incoming postdoctoral fellows, provides fellowship identification and preparation assistance, organizes professional development workshops and seminars, and disseminates job postings. The Office is also responsible for tracking postdocs, preparing outcome and accomplishment data, and maintaining an alumni database.

Application Information

CSHL is an EO/AA Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or protected veteran status. VEVRAA Federal Contractor.

To apply, please send your resume, cover letter, and references to email.

Additional Postdoctoral Opportunities

Postdoctoral Fellow – Banerjee Lab – 00399

The Banerjee Lab is interested in how the brain accomplishes the ongoing transformation from sensation to action during natural behaviors. Vocal communication is ideally suited to study natural and flexible sensorimotor transformations. During a conversation, our brain must interpret what we hear and control our vocal response. Recently, we have discovered that a neo-tropical rodent, Alston’s singing mouse, engages in fast vocal interactions, even under laboratory settings.

Postdoctoral Fellow – Cifani Lab – 00888

The Cifani Lab focuses on the transformation from sensation to action during natural behaviors. We study vocal communication to understand natural and flexible sensorimotor transformations. Recently, we discovered that Alston’s singing mouse engages in fast vocal interactions, even under laboratory settings.

Postdoctoral Fellow – Furukawa Lab – 807

The Furukawa Lab is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to explore the molecular underpinnings of neurotransmission, neuroplasticity, and neuron-targeted autoimmunity triggered by cancer. We use a multidisciplinary approach, including structural biology, high-resolution imaging, and electrophysiology. Expertise in cryo-electron tomography, single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, x-ray crystallography, patch-clamp, slice electrophysiology, or molecular neuroscience is advantageous but not required.

Postdoctoral Fellow – Gholami Lab – 00303

The Gholami Lab, led by Dr. Gholami, focuses on understanding the host-immune cell interactions and the mechanisms by which the immune system and tumor microenvironment play a role in liver metastases. The research aims to develop novel immune augmenting therapies and practice-changing clinical trials.

Postdoctoral FellowHou Lab – 0078

The Hou Lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow starting in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024. The lab studies how the brain controls movements and natural behaviors, including how the brain coordinates muscles of facial expressions to convey internal states.

Computational Postdoctoral FellowKlindt Lab – 1093

The Klindt Lab is looking for computational postdoctoral candidates interested in using machine learning, computational neuroscience, and computational biology. The position involves the application of methods from machine learning, computer vision, and computational neuroscience to understand complex systems such as neural networks, brain functions, or molecular shapes.
