CSIR Invites Applications for Senior Research Fellowships (SRF) and Research Associateships (RA)

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has announced an exciting opportunity for researchers and scholars in India. Applications are now open for the prestigious Direct Senior Research Fellowships (SRFs) and Research Associateships (RAs). This program, managed by CSIR’s Human Resource Development Group, aims to provide young scientists and technologists with comprehensive training in advanced research methods under expert guidance in universities, institutes, and industrial R&D labs across India.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Senior Research Fellowships (SRF):
Applicants must possess at least an MSc, BE/B.Tech, MTech, or equivalent degree with specific marks criteria. A publication in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal is mandatory, along with a minimum research experience ranging from one to three years, depending on qualifications.
  • Research Associateships (RA):
Open to candidates holding a PhD or equivalent qualifications in science, engineering, or medical disciplines. Candidates who have submitted their thesis are also eligible, provided their PhD viva-voce is completed during the fellowship.

Application Process

  • Deadline: Applications are open from November 28 to December 31, 2024.
  • Mode: Applications must be submitted online through the dedicated portal: srfra.csirhrdg.res.in. No offline applications will be accepted.

Key Features of the Fellowships

  1. Stipend and Benefits:
    • SRFs receive ₹42,000 per month, with an annual contingency grant of ₹20,000.
    • RAs receive ₹58,000 per month, with similar contingency benefits.
  2. Tenure:
    • The tenure for SRFs is initially two years, extendable by one year based on performance.
    • RAs can initially work for one year, extendable annually for up to three years.
  3. Focus Areas:
Research topics include environmental sciences, advanced engineering, life sciences, material sciences, and interdisciplinary studies, among others.

Special Provisions

  • Reserved categories such as SC/ST, physically handicapped, and women candidates benefit from an age relaxation of five years.
  • OBC candidates receive a relaxation of three years.
  • Travel reimbursement for SC/ST candidates attending interviews.

Important Guidelines

  • Each candidate can apply for only one subject code based on their qualifications and research interests.
  • The subject codes cover a wide range of disciplines, such as medical sciences, environmental studies, technology management, and more.
  • Applications with irrelevant or mismatched subject codes may be rejected.
  • All necessary documents, including research publications and experience proofs, must be uploaded with the application.

Selection Process

Candidates will undergo a rigorous selection process, including shortlisting based on academic credentials, research experience, and interviews conducted by high-level discipline-specific committees. Merely meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview call.

This initiative reflects CSIR’s commitment to fostering scientific innovation and excellence in India. Young researchers are encouraged to seize this opportunity to contribute to advancements in science and technology while building their academic and professional careers.
