“Success requires Action”
Books presents a world of creative energy to its readers. These serve customized solutions to one’s own problems and doubts. Here are few excerpts from 5 best books that I think you ought to pursue as a Ph.D. student. The outright meaning and esteem these books bring to your life is immense.
1. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear – by Elizabeth Gilbert
Creative book by Elizabeth gilbert gives you the idea of life. This book is all about life, All big questions that have ever raised themselves in your head. Most of them are answered here in a very fun Liz-Gilbert-Only way. It doesn’t have any commonsense 1-2-3-4 step by step rules. But it is exceptionally much pertinent in our lives.
The author speaks a lot on issue of perfectionism that people seek in their work.
Perfectionism stops people from completing their work, yes—but even worse, it often stops people from beginning their work. Perfectionists often decide in advance that the end product is never going to be satisfactory, so they don’t even bother trying to be creative in the first place.
Thus it is essential to start doing what actually needs to be done leaving the idea of perfection behind.
At some point, you really just have to finish your work and release it as is—if only so that you can go on
to make other things with a glad and determined heart. As
“Done is better than good.”
2. Living with the Monks: What Turning Off My Phone Taught Me. – by Jesse Itzler.
“If you can’t live longer, live deeper.” —Italian proverb
The top-rated creator Jesse Itzler offers a lighting up, engaging and unexpected trip for anyone looking to feel calmer and more controlled in our crazy, furious world.
In this book, author describes his experience of living in a monastery. The un-interrupted peace and solitude of that place first disturbs him too much. He wants to leave the monastery as soon as possible. He thinks he cannot accomplish his goal of spending 15 days there. But slowly he starts to find interest even in that solitude. He says that
The power and temptations of the outside world are great. Train yourself from the distractions. They are the enemies of your goals. Learn to move past the distractions, and you will succeed.”
And he succeeded. He succeeded every time he took on a goal. In this book, he tells his readers the sutras of his success
I always tell people that when you have a BIG goal, the work necessary to accomplish it has to become an obsession. It has to become a part of your daily lifestyle and remain that way for the duration of the goal.
And still if you feel like quitting,
Remember how that choice will make you feel tomorrow, and the tomorrow after that, and the one after that. You want to drop out of the marathon at mile 18? Okay, that’s fine, but… remember what it’s going to feel like tomorrow when you’re left alone to think about it.
Author’s view on perfection matches with Liz Gilbert as the quote from his book says
I always say experience is overrated. It
takes too long. Start the process and figure the rest out. If you
wait too long someone else will beat you to the punch or that
bully in your head will talk you out of pursuing your idea.
3. THINK and GROW RICH – BY NAPOLEON HILLS.
“Mastery of the Law of Success philosophy is the equivalent of an insurance policy against failure.”
Think and Grow Rich is the “Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature.” This book is focused on how to manage oneself to enjoy a productive and successful life.
Same as the Jesse Itzler, author speaks of obsession people should have to achieve their goals.
Every person who wins in any undertaking must be
willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat. Only
by so doing can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind
known as a BURNING DESIRE TO WIN, essential to success.
Author stresses the importance of the thoughts and their quality to achieve success in any area of life.
Your own thoughts and DESIRES serve as the magnet which attracts units of life, from the great ocean of life out there. Only the friendly units are attracted— the ones which harmonize with the nature of your DESIRES.
4. You CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE- Louise L.Hay
“There’s only one who can help that is you, yourself “. Well, this proverb is very true and the writer was successful in proving this.
Louise Hay claims two odious things:
1. All illnesses – are caused by negative thinking, and not cherishing yourself sufficiently. Thus, all illnesses can be cured by positive thinking and self-love.
2. Everyone chooses their parents, and our “energy” attracts people. So those who have bad energy, and don’t love themselves enough, attract abusers, rapists, and financial poverty.
5. MEN Are from MARS, WOMEN Are from VENUS- John Gray, Ph.D.
Relationships form an important part of our lives. As researchers we suffer to maintain a work life balance and preserve harmony in our relationships. It becomes essential to understand our partners to lead a happy and joyous life. This book provides a beautiful description of how men and women differ. Little understanding of these differences can help us to maintain love in our relationships.
With increasing stresses at work and with higher expectations of lasting romance at home, relationships today are challenging for almost everyone. Gaining a better understanding of where your partner is coming from will certainly make your relationships easier.
Author discusses the common issue among the couples and provide the solutions too.
We mistakenly assume that if our partners love us they
will react and behave in certain ways—the ways we react and behave when we love someone.
Men and women feel good differently and their stress coping mechanisms are also different.
A man’s sense of self is defined through
his ability to achieve results. To offer a man unsolicited advice is to presume
that he doesn’t know what to do or that he can’t
do it on his own. A woman’s sense of self is defined through her feelings
and the quality of her relationships.
To feel better Martians go to their caves to solve problems alone. To feel better Venusians get together and
openly talk about their problems.
