The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) applications necessitates advancements in nanoelectronics to enable an intelligent and digitized society. As sensors increasingly interface with the physical world, there is a need for energy-efficient processing of analog data. PHASTRAC aims to address these challenges by developing a first-of-its-kind analog ONN computing architecture that can seamlessly interface with sensors without requiring analog-to-digital conversion. The project will focus on three key aspects: 1) the development of novel devices for implementing the ONN architecture, 2) the design of a novel ONN architecture for analog sensor data processing, and 3) the efficient processing of data for real-time decision-making.
The successful candidate will work on Neuromorphic ONN Computing and Multi-modal ONN learning. The primary objective is to explore the potential of analog ONN neuromorphic computing using VO2-based oscillators and MO/HfO2-based synaptic interconnections. The focus will be on developing circuit-level to architecture-level modules that enable the updating of non-volatile interconnection networks based on the network’s transient state. The aim is to implement learning functions using analog weights realizable by MO/HfO2 devices. Various coupling schemes will be investigated in relation to different learning rules and problem-solving scenarios. The candidate will also explore the interface between sensor data and the ONN architecture, analyzing aspects such as reliability, performance, and noise sensitivity.
