Every 6 months many students clear CSIR-JRF examinations and hunt for Ph.D. positions in renowned universities and institutes. While the search for a good institute, subject of interest, and a good supervisor itself is mind-blogging, the further process of getting a stipend is even more tedious. However, if you know a few things in advance, the journey becomes a little easier.
Follow the link for New Procedure to Activate your CSIR JRF Using NewFMS Portal
1. JRF Scorecard (Marks statement)
After the examination, the CSIR declares the results on its official site within 2 months of examination. Afterward, CSIR issues individual scorecards to all candidates. The scorecards can be availed from the official site of CSIR through a newly posted link on the site. This marks statement has the Examination date and the date of declaration of result printed on it.
2. JRF certificate
The next task is to collect your JRF certificate. JRF certificate is required when applying to an institute for a Ph.D. position and further to avail award letter from CSIR for the activation of fellowship. CSIR releases an official notification to issue a JRF certificate usually after 2-3 months of the declaration of the result. This notification asks the candidates to submit some documents to CSIR either by e-mail or by post and then CSIR sends you JRF certificate by post. This process may take 2- weeks to 1 month. One can also submit these documents by hand and collect the certificate on the spot.
CSIR asks for the following documents for JRF certificate:
- Marks statement (scorecard)
- Admit card of the exam held
- 10th class certificate as proof of date of birth
- Provisional or degree of Post-grad
- Final marksheet of post-grad
- SC/ST certificate or OBC certificate (if applicable)
- PwD certificate (if applicable)
- EWS certificate (if applicable)
3. Award Letter
Now, you have to get yourself registered in a recognized university. Fellowship is awarded only after the receipt of necessary details of qualifying degree examination, proposed place of research work, research topic, name of the supervisor, and the concurrence of the Institution to provide all the necessary facilities.
New Procedure to get CSIR award letter through NewFMS Portal
Contact the Maker of the Host Institute who will initiate the process of New Joining on the online Portal of CSIR. Maker will submit the New Joining Form to Checker/Nodal Officer of the institute who in turn will approve it and submit to CSIR for final approval and issue of Fellowship Award letter.
For this, you have to fill an undertaking form, which you can get by clicking on the following link:

Now you can send monthly bills to CSIR through your HR department. CSIR processes these bills and directly sends the money to your bank account.
